Ashland is home to the award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival which produces plays in repertory each year written by William Shakespeare and other playwrights. The season begins mid-February and runs through the end of October.

Never been to Ashland? Not sure what to do or how to spend your time? Ashland, is perfectly situated in the heart of Southern Oregon and offers an abundance of year-round activities such as wine, cheese and chocolate tasting, white water rafting on the Rogue River, kayaking on Emigrant Lake, snow skiing at Mt. Ashland, bicycle the Bear Creek Greenway and take a day trip to Crater Lake National Park to name just a few. There are also nearby golf courses, horseback riding and guided fishing trips. The Hellgate Jet Boat experience is based in Grants Pass, just 45 minutes north of Ashland.

Downtown Ashland offers the finest in boutique and antique shopping, excellent casual and fine dining, art galleries, farmers’ markets, the Varsity Movie Theater, the Oregon Cabaret Dinner Theater and of course the theaters of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Don’t forget to take in the natural and peaceful beauty of Lithia Park, a 93-acre park right in the heart of Ashland.

To help you get started, we’ve mapped out a few day trips for you.

#1. White water rafting on the Rogue River. Read our review of our experience on the river with Will and his crew at Indigo Creek Outfitters based in Ashland. #2. Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Tasting road trip. Start your road trip at the Rogue Creamery where you can indulge in free cheese tasting and as guests of Abigail’s you’ll receive a 10% discount off of any food purchase of $20 or more. From the creamery, walk across the parking lot to Lillie Belle Farms Artisan Chocolates where you’ll enjoy a taste of decadent handcrafted chocolate and receive a 10% discount off of any purchase of $20 or more. Once you have your cheese and chocolate, hit the road to Gold Hill and as guests of Abigail’s you’ll receive complimentary wine tasting at Del Rio Vineyard and Winery, where you can relax in the outdoor picnic tasting area with your cheese and chocolate, or enjoy your tasting in the winery’s spacious and comfortable tasting room. Either way, they will extend a 10% discount toward any wine purchase. We will provide you with a printed itinerary and directions.

#3. Crater Lake National Park. No visit to southern Oregon is complete without a visit to Crater Lake National Park, a stunning two-hour drive from Ashland. We will give you a detailed itinerary, with driving directions, for the perfect day trip including stops for lunch, the best homemade pie in the area and several beautiful stops along the way (which most people pass right by) including the Rogue River Natural Bridge and Gorge.

#4. Historic Jacksonville & The Britt Festival. Jacksonville, has been designated an historic landmark community. Enjoy boutique shopping, a casual lunch and an afternoon of strolling through the downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods where you’ll find over 90 original brick and wooden buildings, dating back to the 1850’s. Located just 16 miles northwest of Ashland, Jacksonville is home to the Britt Music Festival, the Pacific Southwest’s premier outdoor summer concert series.

#5. Harry & David. Harry & David’s world headquarters are located in Medford, just 15 minutes north of Ashland. The kitchen factory, which is just minutes from the H&D Corner Village Store, offers tours of the facility. Tours are offered Monday – Friday, 4 times per day, and depart from the Harry & David Corner Village Store. Tickets are $5 and you will receive a coupon for $5 off any purchase of $40 or more.
